Julius Augustus Beck was one of the most accomplished of all late 19th and early 20th century regional artists in Pennsylvania. Born in Lititz, Beck studied with his father John Beck and the noted sculptor Hiram Powers. He moved to Harrisburg painted portraits of early Pennsylvania governors and did numerous studies of the Susquehanna River. His works are in the collection of the Heritage Center of Lancaster County, the State Museum of Pennsylvania, the Cumberland County Historical Society in Carlisle and the Lititz Historical Foundation.
